Let me preface this by saying that I originally rejected the offer of a safeword. Did I do it because I’m noble? Not at all. I’m a selfish masochist who feared having his thrills diminished.
People boast of their avoidance of safewords (a word uttered by the bottom to let the top know that the scene has someone gone badly awry).
Tops brag that their bottom trusts them. Sometimes with a sad qualifier that they must or they aren’t – ahem – real (avoid anyone in kink who uses real that way).
Bottoms take pride in refusing a safeword. They know their top will never make a mistake. Or even if something should go amiss the tough little masochist can take it.
Wonderful. Lovely.
Except.
There is always the unknown problem. The unexpected event. I found myself in that situation once. Having no safeword I just yelled “Safeword!”
So I accept the necessity. While I’d rather not it is better than the unforeseen putting me in the hospital (or other unacceptable contingency).
If you disagree tell me:
If the top is so damned skilled how can there be an objection to a safeword that will never be used? . And you indestructible Tough Bottom?
What is your personal safeword philosophy?
