Metal Handcuffs: Yes or No?
A thread on Fetish Lore contains many caveats and cautions agains the use of metal cuffs in BDSM scenes:
But in my first bdsm relationship, I had a scary experience with handcuffs. She had me cuffed (in front of my body) and the cuffs were hooked to a secure tie-down point. Because of the things she was doing to me, I’d occasionally pull lightly on the cuffs; it just sort of happened- I tend to struggle at times. I wasn’t pulling hard at all, and I wasn’t pulling constantly. The cuffs were on at the right tightness (see the above thumb rule) and double-locked. Yet after about 5 minutes, one part of my hand started to go numb. I didn’t say anything, since I just thought my hand was falling asleep. Bad move. After another 5 minutes or so, she let me out. That part of my hand (the relatively large muscle at the base of the thumb/palm) stayed numb for 3 days. That was scary.
But Bitchy Jones says:
And handcuffs are *meant* to be cruel. That is the point of them. This is why I hate handcuffs covered in fluff (quite aside from what they represent). If I was going to cover my handcuffs in anything I would cover then in industrial grade sandpaper.
I Love My Handcuffs More Than You
