From Ms Slide’s About page.

She is rumoured to be anything from zero to several million years old, though carbon-dating suggests that she’s probably about thirty. Having loitered around the edges of the fetish scene in London since the late ‘nineties, Ms Slide can often be seen destroying hapless minions at fetish clubs, holding regular private parties and appointments, and doing nasty things to nice people on naughty websites. She’s from the same part of the world that spawned the marvellous Derren Brown, which could explain her love of the hypnotic arts and one-time goatee beard.

As well as being “Best of Forum” Magazine’s agony aunt, Ms Slide has also been made House Mistress for “Forum” and “Desire Presents BDSM” and regularly contributes to all three, as well as a number of other publications. She also helps out at several club nights, especially Club Pedestal where she helps train house slaves and becomes predictably drunk and obnoxious throughout the course of the evening. Ms Slide will happily write in exchange for coins. If you have work for her, do feel free to get in touch.

Ms Slide is a Dominatrix. A Dominatrix is not a prostitute. I will say this again, for those who don’t quite understand, or who have ever inadvertently read The News Of The World: A DOMINATRIX IS NOT A PROSTITUTE. Much as prozzies do an admirable job, as does anyone who works in a profession that involves taking orders from someone else (be they a street-sweeper, soldier, or second-in-command at Microsoft) a Dominatrix doesn’t get fucked in exchange for cash, and is subordinate to nobody. Ms Slide will not be told what to do. She is perfectly aware that her stubbornness is a character defect, but it works very well for her chosen career, so she’s sodding well sticking with it.

As valuable as telephone sex work is it should never be forgotten that it takes more than a working telephone. Angela St. Lawrence writes:

… Maybe it’s because I’ve always been right (can you believe it?) in my assertion that phone sex is more of a sales enterprise than a sex enterprise. Bells and whistles are important, but the quality of the interaction is what seals the deal. And it is the the salesperson/PSO who is responsible for that quality.

So, in fact, if someone does jump on board expecting a free and easy ride in the saddle of a caller’s horniness, you can bet that she will soon be sliding down the proverbial wall.

Mistress Matisse is an excellent example of the psychological insight of the best professional dominatrices:

What you’re describing, when you say you want to, “retain my dignity and my basic equality as a human being” – well, darlin’, that’s what every submissive wants. I have met a few people who claimed they wanted to have their dignity and their basic humanity stripped away from them, but a) that’s rare and b) I don’t think it’s an emotionally healthy goal.

So aside from them, every submissive says “I don’t want it to be about what I want.” Of course you don’t. That would defeat the purpose.

But in another sense, you do, because you want to feel the way you want to feel. Thus is the challenge for the top in consensual, erotic, dominant/submissive relationships.

So yes, in that arena, you’re quite normal. What puzzles me is the remark about being submissive in the relationship but not in the bedroom? That’s the opposite of what I often hear, which is that someone wants to be sexually submissive but operate as an equal in the rest of the relationship. So I think what you’re saying is that you want a bossy controlling woman to have more-or-less vanilla sex with? That’s perfectly okay – bossy women need love too – let’s just get that clear.

If you’ve seen the documentary Fetishes then you’ve seen Mistress Raven. Here’s an excerpt from an interview with her:

“Being dominant is a very hard job,” Raven explained. “You’re creating the scenario. You’re writing the entire script. You’re doing all the labor. You know, submissives, they have it easy. They’re not so stupid. They’re very smart. Who’s doing all the work? The mistress is supposedly in charge. But she’s doing the lighting, the music. She’s doing all the physical tying up and whatever the punishment is. She’s wearing the high heels and the corset, while he’s sitting there nice and cozy and comfy and just responding. So who’s really serving whom?”

(Funny how outsiders obsess with that last little bit.)

Mistress Medusa is a young woman exploring a career as a professional dominatrix:

… let’s say your Mistress cuts you a deal and does $500 for two hours (this is about an average rate)… minus the $200 for dungeon rental, out of that remaining $300… there’s the money she spent on the elaborate outfit she’s wearing ($400 corset, $200 vinyl pants, $150 for boots), then there’s the toy bag full of instruments often costing hundereds of dollars each. Then the working hours answering emails, promoting, advertising (equivalent to a full admin position), $200 a month for private health insurance, etc … even if she does a two hour session 5 times a week… she’s still not rolling in the dough.

This is a job you have to love to be good at.

The sticker price attracts a lot of Women who haven’t done their research and they go as quickly as they come.

I don’t want to be one of those Dommes.

Whatever a latex fetish means to my client, the chance to fully exercise my sadism and make a living at it is something you have to do out of love for it.

I wish I’d caught this thread that Gracie started on Sex Kitten earlier:

I agree that the very basis of a domme being paid for her services makes her, in part, cater to the submissive. If baby ain’t happy, she makes no money. In this sense, to domme is topped from the bottom ~ in many cases. There are many, too many in my opinion, folks which work bdsm this way. Of course, ‘real’ folks aren’t exempt from this. I know many people in real life loving relationships who acquiese to the demands of a lover who is on the bottom (like any other lover, it’s about aim to please at times ~ and being ‘into bdsm’ does not mean you automatically have your head wrapped right about your relationship). But does this mean that a pro domme automatically offers a cheaters version of the experience?

The sale of BDSM-themed hypnotic MP3s is a growing business. Here’s a warning:

There are at least two professional “Dommes” who give suggestions during these MP3s that the listener will have intense headache pain if they attempt to listen to another Domme’s hypno sessions. I think this kind of suggestion should be criminal. If I did have headaches after that I think I should be able to sue. There was no mention in the description of these files was I told that such a suggestion would be given.

Many of the “Dommes” try to addict the subject, telling the listener to crave more and more, to buy more and more, to pay tribute and offer gifts to the Hypnodomme. At least one tells the subject that no one else will be able to hypnotize him after listening to her then she tells the subject he is her slave and must keep buying her sessions. If someone accepted these suggestions I think they would be trapped since no one else could undo these suggestions. I am sure it would take a professional to fix the problems created by all of this.

Miss Babydoll writes about what for me is one of the deepest experiences within D/s – emotional S&M:

First, I have always enjoyed making boys beg. Teasing is at the core of My approach to domination and always has been, and emotional cruelty is just an extreme form of teasing—as playground teasing can also go from mild embarrassment to deep wounding. Second, over the past 18 months or so I have slowly gotten over My uneasiness about emotional sadism (oddly enough, I got past similar squigginess about physical sadism much earlier). I have discovered that I really enjoy shaming and humbling boys. I also have a fetish for teasing money out of them. The best part is getting to them to the point at which they beg and plead for more, addicted to the pain and shame and exploitation because of the intense release that follows (or more and more, climaxes) My infliction of them. These pleas from My subs are what I could call prayers to the Goddess in Her (My) wildest and cruelest form—Kali Durga, the Sexy Destructress, the Dancer on Men’s Faces. And often enough, though not always, She comes, and She fills Me.

When I manifest Kali Durga, the Dark Goddess, I find it difficult at times to restrain Myself from following through on My pet’s prayers for destruction. I am so attuned to My pet’s surrender, so filled with the joy of cruelty, that the thought of bringing him to that total ruin is thrilling. My senses are hyperacute, My nipples hard, My cunt wet, My body tensed yet fluid. I am full of a dark radiance, as if My blood has become crimson light. My brain is then a furled million-petaled rose of that crimson light, and every little vein in Me is a thorn that tears at My pet’s heart, because I know so exactly how to wound him, even as I have brought him to a pitch of sexual arousal and emotional excitement so extreme that he is literally shaking, barely able to speak. I know this sounds overblown and romantic, but My own exaltation is difficult to convey except in such terms, and the effect on My pet I am not exaggerating in the slightest.

It is easy for submissive guys to forget that women are as unscrupulous and manipulative as men. Axe writes about a women who took advantage of him:

We went to her room and she had me kneel. We talked for a few minutes then she had me strip and she bound me to a spreader-bar hanging from the ceiling. She didn’t want to know anything about me really. I could almost tell that this wasn’t personal for her in any way. She toyed with me for a few minutes and after she was done she told me that she still wasn’t sure about me. I would have to come back at least four more times and bring $250 each time if I wanted to be considered.

As the door on the elevator to the dungeon closed behind me, I began to cry.

She knew I didn’t have that kind of money, yet she told me if I really wanted to be her slave I would find a way.
